The last 12 months have been quite a ride!

We have all had to pivot quickly and adapt to an everchanging and ambiguous world.  The business transformations we have faced in the last 12 months have arguably been the fastest and largest technological changes to the way we work in decades.

With these changes, we at Career Transform have seen a few impacts to the way we need to prepare for interviews…

Some preparation remains the same..

  1. Do your research!
  2. Prepare your 60 second commercial
  3. Prepare your CARs for the behavioural interview
  4. Dissect the position criteria, and prepare for each.
  5. Practice A LOT!

The difference lies in some of the potential extra questions you need to prepare for:

  1. How have you handled quarantine?  What did you do to manage it?
  2. Do you have a dedicated space to work at home?
  3. Are you willing to return to the office?

Prepare your space for the video interview

Most of our clients are still doing the significant part of the interview process via zoom.  So, to manage this, run a practice mock interview on zoom, or what ever video platform you prefer.

The good news is, you can have your notes in front of you, and they can’t see them.

Be prepared for technological (or non technological) issues.  The best thing you can do if something goes wrong is show grace, and hope they will return the favour.

So too, it may be worth considering extra questions to ask your employer

  1. How do they onboard remotely? (if they are working remotely)
  2. How do they manage cyber security?
  3. You could ask about company culture and training during the pandemic.
  4. What are their plans moving forward?

So in closing….

Spending time preparing for interviews is a key step towards landing your ideal position in a post-covid world.

And finally, to really stand out, another tip is sending a thank you letter to your interviewers within 48 hours of the interview.

We hope you use these interview strategies to prepare yourself for future career success!
